Parent Community
The connection between home and school is a central component of our school community. We put a strong emphasis on parent involvement as it has a direct relationship to building success in the classroom. Further, family engagement is fundamental in building a sense of community within our school.
Throughout the year, we host community events such as our Welcome Picnic, Winter Fair, Project Exhibition Nights, social events and more! Below are a few or our recent parent-only events that are designed to both facilitate important conversations and support parents as they seek to best support their children at home:
Mindfulness for Parents
Hosted by Meira Cohen-Hansfrod, LCSW
Meira will describe the differences between formal and informal mindfulness practice, the benefits of mindful parenting and mindfulness ‘how to’ skills. You’ll be guided in exercises and brief meditations and leave with tangible tools, resources and a motivation to continue to practice.
Navigating Big Feelings
Hosted by Dr. Erin O’Connor, Professor of Teaching and Learning at NYU and Chief Education Officer at Cooper
From meltdowns, to anger, sadness, anxiety, and more... big feelings are challenging. Join this workshop to learn what “big” feelings are, and discuss their complexities and nuances as they relate to supporting our children and ourselves.
Why Have Limits?: Understanding Boundaries and Expectations in the Preschool Years
Hosted by Dr. Chloe Massey, Facilitator at Cooper
Challenging behaviors are developmentally appropriate for a toddler. This workshop focuses on setting clear limits and boundaries which are essential as preschoolers develop self-regulation and impulse control.
Kindergarten Admissions
Hosted by Adriana Payne, Smart City Kids
A comprehensive guide to the admissions process for independent schools, public schools, and gifted and talented programs.
In addition to these school-wide events, we have an Open Door Policy which means that we invite parents in to the classroom to engage in a variety of ways. Parents may join in to share a family recipe, read a favorite story, or join the class for a neighborhood walk.
We also offer more formal volunteer opportunities in the form of committees such as:
Class Parents
Library Committee
Social Committee
Admissions Ambassadors
Garden Committee
Neighborhood Walk Volunteers
