Investigations & Documentation

Our educators prioritize critical thinking and collaboration by embracing open-ended learning, allowing children to explore self-driven topics over extended periods of time. Photo and video documentation, prominently displayed in the school environment, emphasizes the value of the learning process and fosters a deeper understanding of and appreciation for children's work and thoughts.

What are Investigations?

As educators, we engage in a thoughtful process of actively listening to and observing children. Our aim is to ignite and nurture their critical thinking and collaborative skills in interaction with their peers. Instead of adhering to predefined outcomes, projects, or time constraints, our approach is open-ended. We encourage children to explore topics that emerge from their own interests, and we delve into these subjects over extended periods.

Children participate in both small and large group settings, providing opportunities for them to collectively expand their knowledge through collaboration, negotiation, and constructive challenges.

Long-term investigations afford children the luxury of ample time to wonder, discover, and acquire knowledge about their surroundings. This extended duration allows them to explore various ideas, build upon previous experiences, and attain a deeper comprehension of the subject matter. By sharing their thoughts and discoveries with their peers, we foster a broader collective effort and the inclusion of diverse perspectives in the knowledge-building process.

Our approach serves as a guiding principle, aiding us in helping children not only understand how things work but also encouraging them to delve deeper into the learning journey.

What is Documentation?

Through the use of videography, photography, and meticulous note-taking, educators acquire a profound understanding of the children's activities and learning experiences. Collaboratively, teachers and students engage in the meaningful practice of revisiting their past work, facilitated by the utilization of photo and video documentation. This revisitation serves as a source of inspiration, fostering deeper reflection and thinking.

The outcomes of this documentation effort are prominently showcased throughout the school environment, through panels, photographs, and books. This not only underscores the value attributed to the learning process itself, rather than just the end product, but also communicates to the children that their work and thoughts hold a special place of importance and appreciation.
